Everything you need to know about Gemstones

A gemstone as we all know is a valuable piece of mineral crystal that is usually mined from the ground. Considering their usability, they are mostly utilized in creating some of the most spectacular jewellery and other adornments that are of astrological significance.

History Behind Gemstones

According to Dr. Stephen Hawking, the future developments of medicine will depend on treatments based on light and colour. If one were to take the view of science, gemstones are all about healing with light and colour. They work on the principle of transmission of wavelengths from the planets. India is the land of gemstones and gem therapy and the seers understood the powers of gemstones even before modern science took a step towards decoding them. Every day of the week represents a planet and every planet has a colour assigned to it, corresponding to the seven colours of the rainbow. The light that falls from the sun is made up of seven colours (which we see in a rainbow) such as red, yellow, green, blue, violet, indigo and orange of different wavelengths. These have different operating power and influence on the physical body system.

Science Of Gemstones

Gemstones work on the principle of transmission of wavelengths from the planets. Every day of the week represents a planet and every planet has a colour assigned to it, corresponding to the seven colours of the rainbow. The whole universe is a wave function made up of cosmic energy and assorted rays. These Invisibles cannot be perceived by our naked eye- which is only meant to see the physical world. The only eye which can perceive this subtle energy is the third eye, which is meant for introspection.

Gemstone And Positioning Of Planet

We assume the sun to be a magnetic field, which absorbs the cosmic rays from every planet and, in turn, transmits energy back to them. In this fashion, the sun’s energy reaches the Earth. Human beings are born in different times, places and zones (desh, kaal, paatr) and have different conditioning. At the moment of birth, the position of all the planets in the sky creates a magnetic stamp for that child. Hence, due to different nakshatra, planetary transits and many other celestial motions, all the cosmic rays from the sun do not reach the body in the same measure – varying greatly among individuals sometimes the energy of Jupiter is found lacking, sometimes the energy of Saturn is lacking. Hence gemstones absorb the energy they are associated with and transmit them to the body. When we wear a recommended gemstone, it enhances the absorption of the cosmic rays of the planet it represents.

Prescribing A Gemstone

It is a very known fact that gemstones are used to improve one's life. Despite this, some people don't have trust in this science especially the younger generation because they are unable to see the logic in wearing them. However, there are some forces even in the scientific realm that have not yet been proven but still, we believe in them because we feel them. A prominent example is the law of gravitation. It has not been proved by scientists but we still believe that it exists because we feel it. Similarly, the effects of gemstones are observed by the ones who have used them under proper guidance. Thus prescribing gemstones is not unsynchronous with this energy system. A particular stone absorbs all kinds of solar and cosmic energy and allows a particular type of energy to pass through it and which is then absorbed by the body. If prescribed properly, this actually helps the individual by restoring the balance in the person and leading to self-flourishing.

Gemstone’s quality is determined majorly by the Four “Cs”:

There are various factors that are taken into consideration while determining the gemstone’s value, quality, significance and price, etc. Read on to know more about it.

Colour:-

A gemstone’s tone possesses four types of colour depth that includes: light, medium-light, medium, medium-dark and dark. Where the gemstones which range in the colour bracket of medium-light to medium-dark are considered the most valuable ones.

Carat:-

The gemstone's weight is measured in units, which is called carat. Interestingly, stones of different sizes can possess the same carat, owing to the reason that one stone may be larger than another because of its grinding. Where each carat is approximately 200 milligrams (0.2 grams)/ ⅕ of a gram.

Cut:-

A gemstone that has the maximum cuts is of high significance/value as the cuts help in increasing the lustre and the ability to reflect light. Hence, gemstones like diamonds are very expensive and popular in the gemstone world. As far as the other gemstones are concerned, some key attributes are taken into consideration, which counts on the size, symmetry and colour. These factors are taken into account before proceeding towards the cutting process.

Clarity:-

Mostly all the gemstones are composed of inclusions and traces of other minerals, gases and liquids. Nonetheless, it does not undermine the value of the gemstone, instead, it increases. And it is very rare to witness gemstones that are crystal clear and if sourced then it is of very high value.Besides the Four “Cs” there are few other pertinent factors that come into the picture that are mentioned below as following:

Hardness:-

The hardness of the stone determines its sustainability therefore it reveals how the stone can be used and worn. This means if the gemstone is not hard enough then it won’t last for long if dropped by mistake or if it faces any sort of external exposure to unintentional damage/scratch, everyday wear and tear, environmental hazards, or even the gemstone’s tendency to fracture, etc. Therefore, the hardness is studied through the Moh's hardness scale which ranges between 10-1, where 10 is ranked as the hardest and 1 as the lowest in terms of hardness. A gemstone that has a hardness range of 5 is considered a vulnerable/sensitive stone that can get easily scratched. Whereas, a stone ranging between 10-7 on the hardness scale, is considered quite sturdy and tough.

Rarity:-

The gemstone which is rare of course adds more value to itself. Though most of the gemstones are rare, however, it completely depends on the supply and demand factor, which affects it the most.

How gemstones work in healing & why do we need them?

Gemstones absorb energy from a particular planet and act as a lens for the body. In simple words, the gemstone works as a transformer in our hands. So for instance if the energy from a plant reaches the body upto 30% in actuality. Where this percentage is less owing to some inauspicious planetary transit during our birth or in other words God has destined that this energy will be transmitted only 30% depending on your karma/chart. However, by wearing a good quality gemstone, the energies will transmit in a manifold manner that the body absorbs. This multifold reach will amplify certainly but will never be 100%

Understanding why we need them can be related to the fact that as we have 5 fingers in our body, which are not equal to each other. Likewise, on different days/weather/constellations and from different impacts of nature, the energies of the planet don’t reach our bodies equally. So gemstones come as a balancer to boost the weak planet of that individual. Where every gemstone radiates a particular kind of rays. These rays have an effect on the individual as well as the atmosphere around him/her. It does not just change that individual's attitude yet also works in his favour, hence, increasing the positivity around. So, it is of paramount importance to wear the gemstone under a learned astrologer's guidance, as wearing the wrong gemstone can give away extreme negative effects. As every gemstone possesses a unique chemical structure. And when it is worn, it gets in touch with the skin thereby getting absorbed in the body in a molecular form and starts to show an effect on the aura.

Further, it can be connected with an individual who might be suffering from cold, chest congestion, sinus, lung-related, pulmonary disorder and weak immune system, etc. In such circumstances, we must understand that the person is affected by an afflicted moon. As at the time of his birth, the moon was disturbed (the energies of the moon were disturbed during his birth). And different directions on earth have the difference of longitude and latitude. So, he/she will need to wear a gemstone corresponding to that issue.

The connection of gemstones and light for healing purpose:

As you must be knowing, gemstones are naturally extracted, which harness the energies of the sun, moon, and oceans that possess natural healing energies. These healing energies help in improving our state. So, when a crystal is held or placed over the body, it interacts with the body's chakras and promotes physical as well as mental wellness. Where an individual requires a gemstone as per his/her birth chart. Which then works in accordance to improve concentration and creativity levels. Not just this yet it can also nurture aspects pertaining to the physical, emotional and spiritual cleansing aspect.

Now talking about its relativity with light, as you must have witnessed that gemstones' look/appearance varies when exposed in different lights or even at different times of the day. So in order to introduce that aspect, we will enlighten you about how gemstones interact with light and its related phenomenon. Consider keeping a prism in the sunlight. What do you see? 7 colours are reflected from the sunlight, isn’t it? Similarly, there are 7 colours in the rainbow. 7 days in a week and so on. Lastly, there are 7 days in the Hindu as well as the Gregorian calendar. So, according to Vedic Astrology, there are the 7 most influential planets that make the most important impact on the body. Where western astrology is more vast and has made studies on various planets. However, Vedic astrology is more accurate in comparison to western astrology. Also, Vedic astrology is the most ancient astrology in India
